ALVA HICKS IS TRIPLE GOLD
AT MT. PLEASNAT INVITATIONAL

     31 May - - Classical High junior Alva Hicks won three events on Saturday at the non-scoring Mt. Pleasant Invitational at Conley Stadium. Hick, already ranked among the country’s top 4-kilogram hammer competitors, threw the implement 172 feet, 1 inch (52.45 meters). She took the shot with a put of 37-9 (11.50). In the discus, Hicks - the state record-holder in the event - got a winning mark of 141-11 (43.25).
     Pilgrim High senior Rebecca O’Donnell took home a pair of gold medals. She leapt 36-7.25 (11.15) to win the triple jump, and long-jumped 16-9 (5.10).
     Westerly High senior Jackie Burr clocked 4:46.2 to win the 1500 meters, while North Kingstown sophomore Beth Nunnery went 10:27.2 in taking the 3000. The Skippers’ Maria Bolibruch dominated the hurdles; 15.4 in the 100 highs, and 48.2 in the intermediates.
