ANOTHER MARK FOR BERKSON
R.I. Track & Field Foundation
1 June - - Classical High senior Maddy Berkson on Saturday added another state record to her list. Running at a New Balance Boston Twilight meet at the Bentley College track in Waltham, Mass., Berkson placed second in the 3000 meters. Her time was 9 minutes, 44.72 seconds, eliminating the previous R.I. state mark of 9:54.9 (h), set in 2012 by La Salle’s Molly Keating.
The winner in the 12-person field was Melissa Nash, of the New Balance Boston Track Club, who clocked in at 9:41.82. Finishing behind Berkson was Aurelie Dube-Lavoie in 9:48.61.
Saturday’s performance brings to eight the total state records (indoor and outdoor combined) held by the Stanford-bound senior. Her other outdoor marks include the 800 (2:08.40), 1500 (4:27.92) and mile (4:52.08).
