25 Aug. - - Part II of the Sons of Italy hammer competition was held on Sunday, 24 Aug. at Conley Stadium, Providence. Barrington’s Bobby Colantonio took the boys’ high school (12-lb.) hammer with a toss of 217 feet, 7 inches (66.32 meters), and the international weight (16 pounds ) with a mark of 192-2 (58.58).
Classical High’s Alva Hicks was victorious in both weights in the girls’ division. She threw the standard prep weight (4 kilograms) 160-8 (48.99), and the 3-kilo (7 lbs.) ball a meet record 178-5 (54.38).
Barrington’s Jamie Heinl threw 174 feet 53.04) to win the prep javelin event.
